5 reasons you should smile more!

A smile is one of the most beautiful things you can wear. One of the few things that make us feel good is a genuine smile. It makes you look attractive and has a lot of benefits for your health. In the words of William Arthur Ward, “A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but its memory sometimes lasts forever.” When was the last time you smiled for no reason? If you can’t remember, here are some reasons you need to start!

Smiling is contagious

We all heard the saying that a smile is contagious, and it turns out there’s some science to back up the expression. A study found that when people see someone smile, they tend to mimic that smile within a few seconds. A smile is contagious, but only if it is genuine. When a person smiles with sincerity, it touches the hearts of others and makes them happy too. It’s a simple gesture that can bring about a lot of change, and sometimes that is all it takes to make someone’s day.

Smiling makes you look younger.

It’s known that a smile can make you look younger. But did you know that the muscles used to smile are the same ones we use to frown? So, by simply smiling more often, you can help to prevent wrinkles and keep your face looking young and fresh. A study by the University of Manchester found that people who smiled in photographs were perceived as two years younger than those who didn’t. The researchers analyzed 2000 photos of men and women aged 18 to 30 and found that the participants who smiled were considered more attractive and youthful. So next time you are feeling a little down in the dumps, put on a smile and see how you feel after. You may be surprised at how good it can make you think.

Smiling boosts your immune system.

It has been proven that when you smile, your brain releases neuropeptides, reducing stress and raising your immune system. People who smile frequently have a stronger immune system than those who don’t. This was concluded in a study published in the journal Psychological Science. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Kansas, who asked participants to rate their mood and then took saliva samples to measure their levels of immunoglobulin (IgA), an antibody that plays a crucial role in defending the body against infection.

The results showed that people who reported being in a good mood and smiling more frequently had significantly higher levels of IgA than those who did not report being in a good mood.

Smiling lowers stress

Smiling has pretty incredible health benefits. When you smile, your brain releases endorphins, which are hormones that have a natural pain-relieving effect. They also promote a positive mood and help to counteract the effects of stress. A study conducted by the University of Kansas found that participants who smiled during a stressful task had a lower level of cortisol- a hormone associated with stress.

Smiling is good for your health

Smiling is beneficial for your physical and mental health as well. Smiling releases endorphins, which are the brain’s feel-good chemicals. When you smile, you actually trick your brain into feeling happy. In addition to making you feel good, smiling has other health benefits. It can help you look younger, live longer, and lose weight. Next time you are feeling down, try putting a smile on your face and see how it makes you feel!
